After experiencing the power of a plant-based diet first hand, we have made it our mission to spread awareness for a balanced, plant-based lifestyle with vegan protein bars that have positive effects on the world. Adopting a plant-based lifestyle not only gives us the opportunity to better serve our health, but it allows us to better serve the planet as well. We know from experience that eating plant-based works; we see and feel the positive effects everyday in the form of clearer skin, more energy, improved immunity, optimal digestion and better moods. Plant-based isn’t just a diet for us, it’s a way of life.

Why Eating A Plant-Based Diet Matters to Us

Transformation in all areas of your life starts with the food we eat. We believe that food quality impacts our health, happiness and well-being. A well balanced plant-based diet means so much to us because we have experienced its transformative powers ourselves, and are on a mission to help others experience the amazing benefits as well.

Health Benefits of a Plant-Based Diet

Our journey in learning about the incredible power of a macrobiotic diet began when our co-founder, Amelia, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003. After weighing all the options and researching alternative treatments, Amelia decided against the 5-year tamoxifen drug treatment and embraced the macrobiotic way of life, eliminating eggs, dairy, refined sugars and flours, hydrogenated oils, processed foods, additives, artificial colorings and preservatives, and animal products from her diet. Our family adopted this macrobiotic diet in support of her. Amelia won her battle with cancer, and since then, we have made it our mission to spread our experience with a plant-based lifestyle.

We believe that getting nutrients from plants allows more room in your diet for health-promoting options like whole grains, fruit, nuts, seeds and vegetables, which are packed full of beneficial fiber, vitamins and minerals. Studies have shown that plant-based diets have been linked to a number of health benefits including reducing your risk of heart disease, certain cancers, obesity, diabetes, and cognitive decline. With health as our main focus, we are dedicated to creating products that are 100% plant-based.

Cancer Prevention

In 2007, The World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research released a report titled "Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity, and the Prevention of Cancer: A Global Perspective." This report discusses the findings of hundreds of studies that looked at links between food, nutrition, and cancer risk. With 6 of the 8 recommendations pointing to food, and one of the recommendations pointing to the adoption of a plant-based diet, it's obvious that what we eat plays a huge role in cancer prevention.

Diabetes

Adopting a plant-based diet is said to not only reduce the risk of cancer, but diabetes as well. In January 2018, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the American College of Endocrinology released their new guidelines in which they suggest that a plant-based diet is a great nutrition plan for people with diabetes because cutting out high fat and sugar foods can have an immediate effect on leveling blood glucose levels and reducing harmful fats in the bloodstream.

Heart Support

Embracing a plant-based diet can be intimidating, but when it comes to heart health, a macrobiotic diet is one of the best decisions you can make. It is proven that following a plant-based diet is associated with a lower risk of heart disease. In fact, research presented during the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2017 showed that plant-based diets decreased the risk of heart failure by 42 percent among people with no history of heart disease.

Environmental Benefits of a Plant-Based Diet

Eating a plant-based diet matters so much to us because it’s one of the most effective things we can do to lower our carbon footprint. In today’s world, animal agriculture is responsible for two-thirds of all freshwater consumption. Just one pound of beef requires 1,799 gallons of water to produce! In an increasingly drought-stricken, warming world, numbers like these are very alarming. It is our goal to promote adoption of a plant-based diet not only for our own health, but for the health of our planet, too.

With all this said, it is important to realize that not all plant-based ingredients are created equal, that’s why we have carefully selected ingredients that are responsibly-sourced. We source 100% plant-based ingredients from organic, non-GMO certified farmers that follow sustainable farming practices.

Supporting our Growing Population

Plant-based living is also a more sustainable way of feeding our growing global population. A plant-based diet requires only one-third of the land needed to support a meat and dairy diet. According to recent research by some of the world’s leading water scientists, humans acquire around 20% of their protein from animal-based products. There are an extra 2 billion people expected to be alive by 2050 and to be able to feed them all, this number will need to drop to just 5%. In a recent article, National Geographic breaks down the dire consequences of relying on meat to support the growing population and emphasizes that one solution is a plant-based diet.

Many world leaders and researchers are realizing that immediate action is necessary. Adopting a plant-based diet aids in supporting a sustainable food system and is a helpful solution to the ever-growing problems our world is currently facing when it comes to feeding our global population in the years to come. With the percentage of veganism in America quickly rising, it’s safe to say that people are catching on. The demand for meat-free food increased by 987% in 2017, and going vegan was predicted to be the biggest food trend in 2018.

The Good News

The power of a plant-based diet is spreading, more people are becoming aware of this transformative way of living, and adopting a plant-based diet is easier than ever before thanks to the many delicious plant-based products that are available to us. The good news is that there IS a way to make a difference in our health and our environment. Everytime we chose a plant-based product over an animal-based one, we are standing up for our health, our planet, and contributing to a more sustainable food system.
