Breast Cancer Awareness month is a cause that holds a very special place in our hearts here at GoMacro. In 2003, Amelia Kirchoff was diagnosed with breast cancer. After speaking with her daughter, Jola, Amelia decided to fight the cancer with a macrobiotic, plant-based diet as an alternative to traditional treatment. In the face of adversity, Jola and Amelia bonded together, fought the cancer and Amelia won. During her battle with cancer, Amelia created the MacroBar recipe in her kitchen on the Wisconsin family farm. In the years following, Amelia and Jola began spreading the power of a plant-based diet, as a way to prevent many diseases, including cancer through GoMacro.
Prevention Is The Cure
Your best defense against becoming diagnosed breast cancer is becoming educated, and incorporating simple preventative measures into your everyday wellness routine. Here are a few ways you can take a proactive stand with your own breast health:
A shared belief between GoMacro and Keep A Breast is the importance of eating food with wholesome ingredients. Avoid processed food full of chemical preservatives and opt for an organic, plant-based diet, composed of mostly veggies. When you buy from local farmers, you have access to fruits and vegetables that you know are chemical free. Switching to plant-based milks and meat alternatives is a great first step in reducing meat and dairy consumption. The more plants the better!
Did you know that 30 minutes of exercise 3-4 times a week can help lower your risk of breast cancer by 30-50%? Maintaining a healthy weight, getting your heart pumping and reducing your stress levels are important for a healthy body. If working out at the gym isn’t your style, try a pilates class or a stress relieving yoga session. Tracy Anderson Studios is another amazing fitness opportunity. With 6 locations and online studio classes, you can reap the benefits of this revolutionary fitness method no matter where you live.
We are exposed to toxic chemicals on a daily basis in our households, beauty products and other consumer goods. These toxins can be linked to the development of breast cancer. To reduce toxins, turn to products with a few, simple ingredients. Some of our favorites are Kaia Naturals organic deodorant, OSEA Malibu skincare, and organic coconut oil brand, Conscious Coconut.
Keep A Breast created the ultimate self-check tool, the Check Yourself! app, making it possible for young women all over the world to develop a healthy life-long relationship with their bodies by encouraging monthly breast exams. The app contains step-by-step instructions, automatic monthly reminders and lifesaving breast health information in the palm of your hand.
Prevention and early detection are so important. We encourage you to commit to your breast health all year, not just in October. It’s a commitment to your long-term health and wellness.
Every Bite Makes a Difference
GoMacro is proud to support The Keep A Breast Foundation by donating 10% of proceeds from our Cherries + Berries Giveback Bar to their organization throughout the month of October.
