Position Description
As our Sales Team continues to grow, we’re seeking a data-savvy Category Insights Manager (CIM) to help drive smart, sustainable growth through insight-led decisions. This is a new role that reports to the Director of Category Management and Insights. The CIM will provide a category perspective for internal and external customers, assess trends, analyze data, and identify key opportunities to maximize distribution and category volume and share. The incumbent will utilize internal sales data, syndicated data, panel data, demographics, and customer-specific POS to develop actionable insights, strategies, and tactics. The CIM will be the go-to category expert for supported retailers and field sales teams, responsible for providing in-depth category, retail, consumer, and shopper expertise.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
Data, Tools, & Reporting:
- Pull and synthesize data from multiple platforms; SPINS, Numerator, retailer portals, SAP and translate data into insights that drive decision making
- Manage GoMacro databases and custom segmentations in SPINS & Numerator
- Hands-on experience with Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, and dashboard creation
- Update tools & reports monthly in support of: Annual Planning, Quarterly Business Reviews, New Item Launches, and Leadership Presentations
- Lead migration of reporting tools to Power BI
- Design scalable dashboards and visuals for effective data storytelling
- Proactively identify key knowledge gaps and develop tools to address
- Create ad hoc analyses which could also include marketing and innovation requests
- Ensure data accuracy and integrity
Collaborate with Sales Managers/Directors:
- Monitor and analyze category, competition and consumer market data to proactively identify business opportunities and develop actionable category insights
- Collaborate with Sales to develop data-driven, objective category recommendations that result in win-win partnership for GoMacro and our retailers
- Play an integral role in creating specific customer selling and strategy decks for key customers
Required Skills/Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business or related area of study
- 5+ years of CPG experience with 2+ years in a Category Management function
- Strong CPG business acumen
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with planogram software and the ability to interpret or support visual merchandising strategies
- Skilled at pulling data, creating reports, building presentations, and deriving insights from disparate data sources
- Proven analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills that lead to sound decision making
- A self-starter who loves collaboration and is comfortable working independently as well as influencing cross-functional teams
- Accepts new opportunities and challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
- Uses time effectively and successfully prioritizes tasks and projects
- Team player with a “can-do” attitude
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time while in role
