At GoMacro, we are committed to aiding in the conservation and protection of our rainforests. Every second, one and a half acres of rainforest is cut down. At this current rate of deforestation, it will take less than 100 years to wipe out all of the remaining rainforests on earth. Deforestation on its own is responsible for almost 10% of the total worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.
As a response to this, we have partnered with Carbonfund.org to preserve our forests and help offset our carbon footprint.
Established in 2003, Carbonfund.org is leading the fight against climate change, making it easy for any individual, business, or organization to reduce and offset their climate impact. Carbonfund.org also provides a way for individuals to make donations to support verified carbon offset programs and initiatives.
Protecting The Rainforests In Brazil
It’s estimated that the Amazon Rainforest alone is vanishing at a rate of 31,000 square miles per year, and between 15 and 17 percent is irreversibly lost. This makes it extremely difficult to solely replant new ecology. Though reforestation is a part of the equation, protection and preservation of the rainforest play the most vital roles toward the solution. GoMacro has teamed up with Carbonfund.org in an effort to help protect the remaining rainforest, specifically in the vital area of Acre State, Brazil.
The Envira Amazonia Project
Through our partnership, GoMacro helps fund the Envira Amazonia Project, preserving nearly 500,000 acres of tropical rainforest to date. Often referred to as the “planet’s lungs,” the Amazon Rainforest produces roughly 6-9% of the world’s oxygen supply. The Envira Amazonia Project mitigates the release of more than 12.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. It also works to protect the habitat for endemic birds and threatened tree species, lending to an extraordinary amount of biodiversity, which directly benefits the local communities.
“Regional studies in the Southwestern Amazon, particularly near the Envira Amazonia Project, have demonstrated some of the highest levels of biodiversity in the world. For instance, there are about 671 bird species throughout California and about 441 bird species throughout Wisconsin. In contrast, along the relatively small Jurupari River within the Envira Amazonia Project, an ornithologist hired by the Project identified nearly 300 species of birds over the course of just two weeks,” explains Brian McFarland, Senior Vice President of Carbon Offset Projects at Carbonfund.org. “Through carbon finance and the support of our dedicated partners like GoMacro, the Envira Amazonia Project is protecting one of the largest REDD+ areas in the world, while benefiting local communities with a health clinic and pharmacy, dentist and nurse visits, and agricultural trainings.”
In addition to voluntarily foregoing plans to remove trees from the region, the landowners involved in the program implement numerous activities to assist local communities, offering agricultural training courses, granting land tenure, and establishing alternative sources of income and employment opportunities.
Offsetting Our Carbon Footprint 100%
Through our partnership with Carbonfund.org, we’ve been able to fully offset our carbon footprint. We participate in global reforestation projects and also help protect forests by using composted, recycled trays and 100% post-consumer recycled packaging material for our products.
It Matters To Us
