What We Are Doing

Our goal is to minimize the negative impact of our business. The choices are not clear-cut. We try to make our decisions with the best information we have at our disposal. We have chosen to locate GoMacro on a 120 acre organic site in South Western Wisconsin..... a mix of woodlands, grasslands and prairie.



Prairie Restoration

We reduce our greenhouse emissions through our prairie restorations. Native prairie plants through their extensive root systems store carbon underground in the soil and remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere ....a process known as carbons sequestration. Prairies also provide us with other benefits. They minimize soil erosion, they increase soil fertility and enhance biodiversity as well as creating wildlife habitats. Some of our property is wooded and the trees also sequester and store carbon. Every year we continue to plant a wide variety of trees.


Energy Efficiency

GoMacro is situated in a renovated old barn on the property. We feel that adaptive re-use is less harmful to the environment than new construction. Our heating system uses off peak night time electricity, which under normal circumstances is wasted and stores it for use during the day. It is more energy and cost efficient and we are working towards incorporating wind energy in the next two years in order to completely eliminate our carbon emissions.

We try to keep our energy use as low as possible in our production facility by minimizing the use of machinery and making our products by hand.


Biodiversity

We are also focusing our energies on expanding our gardens and orchards to include new heirlooom varieties of plants in order to create a healthy ecosystem that will increase and diversify the variety of plants, animals and insects. Climate change has resulted in the loss of many species and by creating a diverse habitat we hope to help restore some of what we have lost. Living in an ecologically balanced way is also an important contributor to health.
