All of our new gluten free cookies are now available. We have six flavors, wild blueberry/lemon, granola/chocolate, cranberries/walnuts, cashew/vanilla, peanut butter/banana and almond/vanilla. They are high in fiber and flax and are sweetened with organic agave nectar. This morning we made cashew/vanilla and granola/chocolate, two of our favorites.
We are making some changes to our website so we will be able to accept coupon codes. We will keep you posted.
Grammy nominated CARA-C, an accomplished international pop violinist is a believer in healthy living. Nominated for a Grammy she has performed with Burt Bacharach, Whitney Houston, N-Sync and many others. Visit her website to learn more about her and get a free download of Libertango when you join her fan club . She sent us her favorite recipe for Jam Dot Cookies which we wanted to share with you. Made with whole grains and healthy sweeteners it tastes great. She told us that "If it wasn't for me turning macrobiotic, I wouldn't be composing my original compositions. Not eating animal protein with it's lower animal vibration really works. Now I can channel higher vibration notes and sounds." That sounds like a great reason to try macrobiotics.
Jam Dot Cookies
2 cups whole wheat pastry flour (brown rice flour will make this a gluten free recipe)
1 cup ground almonds (roasted sunflower seeds and or pumpkin seeds will work too)
1 cup ground rolled oats (use gluten free oats if you need to)
1/2 cup corn or safflower oil
1/2 - 3/4 cup maple syrup (Cara-c uses 1/2 cup but you might like it a little sweeter)
Pinch of salt
Nutmeg or cinnamon (optional)
Jam (Sorrel ridge or no sugar jelly)
Mix all dry ingredients. Blend oil and maple syrup and whip it really well. Fold together. Oil cookie sheet. Form balls with your hands and press thumb in center of cookie. Fill hole with jam. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 - 15 minutes. Let cool.
Thank you Cara for a great recipe.
In case you are getting a little tired of cookies we have a book recommendation from Jola for any of you with babies or toddlers. She has a two and a three year old and trying to get them to eat healthy foods can be difficult, so she is always on the look out for great recipes. She highly recommends Simply Natural Baby Food by Cathe Olson. "It has great macrobiotic recipes for babies and toddlers and my husband and I love it too. The most useful recipe from the cook book which allows me to get sea vegetables in our family’s diet everyday is the sea veg mix. I use it in everything."
Sea Veg Mix
2 tablespoons kelp
¼ cup crushed hiziki
¼ cup crushed arame
¼ cup crushed wakame
1 strip kombu
Crush sea vegetables with your hands and place them in a blender. Grind to a coarse powder. Store in covered jar. Yield: ¾ cup
