What sweeteners are used in the MacroBars?

There are no refined sugars in the MacroBars. We use organic brown rice syrup or organic, raw agave nectar of the highest grade, both of which contain nutrients. The agave nectar is only used in chocolate crunch, banana almond, and cashew caramel. The chocolate chips used in the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip are sweetened with evaporated cane juice. The Peanut Protein is the same flavor without the chocolate chips.

Why is brown rice syrup listed as the first ingredient on some of the bars?

The ingredients have to be listed in order of weight and because brown rice syrup is so dense, its weight is much more than other ingredients. As a result, it comes up first even though in measurement, we use less than other ingredients. (For example, a ¼ of a cup of brown rice syrup might weigh more than 2 cups of oats. Even though we are using more oats, brown rice syrup has to be listed first due to weight.)

Where do you get your gluten free oats from?

We buy our oats from Gluten Free Oats in Wyoming founded by a family who has three generations of people with celiac disease.

Why do MacroBars have more carbs and sugar than other bars?

MacroBars are larger than most of our competitors so it appears that we have more but in actuality they are about the same. All the carbs and sugars we use come from healthy ingredients and are slow burning.

Why are MacroBars more expensive?

   • MacroBars are bigger than most other bars on the market.
   • We use USDA Organic, gluten-free and superior ingredients that are ethically
sourced. Organic nut butters like almond and cashew are very expensive compared
to the more commonly used peanut butter (which is why it’s such a common flavor).
Our sweeteners are higher quality and thus more expensive. Organic brown rice
syrup and organic raw agave nectar are more expensive than evaporated cane
sugar which is not healthy and is what most companies use.

What are the health benefits of brown rice syrup?

   • Brown rice syrup has a low glycemic value, which means it does not
cause a sugar rush or a sudden spike in blood sugar after consuming
it. This is because the sugar profile in this syrup is 50% soluble
carbohydrates, 45% maltose and 3% glucose. The glucose is
immediately absorbed and metabolized, maltose takes from an hour
to an hour and a half, and soluble carbohydrates take 2-3 hours to be
metabolized and energy released. This results in constant supply of
energy spread over a long time rather than a sudden rush.
   • Brown rice is a good source of minerals, which are carried over to
its byproducts like brown rice syrup.
   • Good source of magnesium. It helps in relieving fatigue, relaxing the
muscles, nerves and blood vessels, thus relieving the symptoms of
asthma, migraine headaches, tension and soreness in muscles etc.
   • Good source of potassium; this along with low amounts of sodium
helps to maintain blood pressure and reduces water retention.
   • Good source of iron that assists in respiration at the cellular level by
synthesizing hemoglobin that helps to carry oxygen to cells.
   • Very good source of manganese, and B-group vitamins which are an
essential co-factor in many enzymatic reactions in the body,
especially in the production of energy and antioxidant defense.
