From time to time we want to tell you about some of the things we love. We hope you will enjoy them too.

Crosscut Boards

Cutting or serving boards made from fallen hardwood logs in the woods of Minnesota.  Cut from a single piece of wood, each board is sealed with a moisture resistant, mineral oil finish.  Safe for food.  Made in the USA.  Would make a great gift.

Dunclare black dining collection

This dinner set is the result of the collaboration between Liberty of London and Target.  Classy and inexpensive. A set of eight dinner plates made of melamine is $23.99.  The other items range in price from $12.99 to $23.99.  Head over to Target.  They will sell out quickly.

Seed Safe

The Seed Safe by Spanish designer Marti Guixe will be available in European stores this year. It is a beautiful stoneware jar dedicated to collecting the seeds from vegetables and fruits we eat so that they can be planted instead of thrown away or composted. Do you value seeds?  It reflects how we feel about where our food comes from.  The designer, Marti Guixe collects the seeds from what he eats at home.  Why not go out and buy a pretty container or jar and collect your seeds.  When spring comes plant them in your garden, on a balcony, even in an empty city lot. Watch them grow.  Perhaps one day you will have nurtured a tree.  Even though money doesn’t grow on trees you will definitely feel richer.

Kareena’s Art

Children, animals and the whimsical world of make believe.  Kareena’s work is unique and refreshing.  She lives in Sydney, Australia but I ordered the owl poster and freight was only $8.00.  Very reasonable. I had difficulty choosing between the owl and the deer.  See what you think.

Sarah Cihat Plates

Sarah Cihat buys all of her dishware secondhand at thrift stores and reglazes and refires them for a brand new look. In her own words she says her plates are an “exercise in sustainability that reincarnates existing products.  Her work has been featured in exhibitions and numerous publications.

Noor Bag by Krejci

When Dutch designer Doreen Westphal received a bag full of inner tubes as a joke Christmas present she started to play around with the material, which resulted in her first inner tube bag. After much experimentation and study Krejci succeeded in creating TUBUS, a line of strong, unique looking bags based on unusual materials: original Amsterdam bicycle inner tubes and felt. Dimensions are 55x46cm.

Eco Yoga Mat

The Original Eco Yoga Mat is biodegradable and composed exclusively of all-natural rubber and jute fiber.  It is excellent for any consistent practice of Yoga. Its rubber underside grips the floor and the jute fabric/rubber mix on top offers superb traction – even in a heavy sweat. It is a highly durable, tactile, and pleasantly natural surface to practice on. The mat combines a cloth surface and sticky mat in one and might remind you of walking barefoot on the earth. It comes in four colors, natural, coral pink, lichen green and deep lavender.  I bought the natural one for my daughter for Christmas and she has been raving about it. A definite yes and rated #1 by the New York Times for environmentally friendly yoga mats.

Water-powered Clock

Save money on batteries!  This clock is powered by the very salt and water mixture that occupies 70% of the earth’s surface!  This Eco-Friendly clock keeps perfect time as electrodes harvest energy from the water. All you have to do to make the clock run is fill its tank up with tap water and depending on the particles that are in your water system you may need to add a small amount of table salt.  We also recommend that you cut a lemon in half and squeeze some lemon juice into the water tank.  This procedure will enhance the power generated by the clock and make it work more efficiently.  You need to change the water in the tank ever so often and add water when it evaporates.  The clock has a memory function that remembers the time as you change the water.  Go green.

Bazura Grocery Bag

What is BaZura? Basura means garbage in Spanish.  BaZura Bags is working with a women’s co-op in the Philippines that set up a Livelihood Project assisted by the local village council. With almost no capital, the women found a very clever way to support themselves. They make bags from discarded drink containers and used rice bags and they turn them into eyecatching accessories .

This messenger bag is made from used rice bags and lined with pre consumer recycled aluminum foil. It features a large fold-down flap with velcro closing, under the flap pencil pockets, inside slip pocket, large book pocket on outside back, and a long adjustable over the shoulder webbed strap.
